KKR’s Legend Mentor Gautam Gambhir Returns To Kolkata Before IPL 2024

IPLCricBet reports that legendary cricket player Gautam Gambhir is now in Kolkata to prepare his team for the upcoming games. KKR has won both its titles under the leadership of Gautam in 2012 and 2014. This means almost a decade has passed without the Kolkata franchise bagging an IPL win. The team made it to the title clash just once in 2021. But they lost to the defending champions CSK.

Prelude to Gautam Gambhir’s arrival in Kolkata

Kolkata Knight Riders have named their former team captain as their mentor. They hope to use his expertise to prepare the team in hopes of winning the title. On Instagram, KKR shared a short video of Gambhir arriving at the Kolkata airport, beaming as he connects with the team. Gambhir shared his sentiments after he landed in Kolkata with the following statement.

“I know there will be expectations and I hope to live up to it and make the fans happy.”

Gambhir spent the last 2 seasons with LSG as their team mentor, making the team qualify for back – to – back playoffs. However, this season KKR fans are rejoicing at the fact that Gautam isn’t the only star attraction of the team.

Newest and costliest member of the KKR team squad

After spending an exorbitant amount of INR 24.75 crore, KKR was able to sign the Australian legend Mitchell Starc. The left arm pacer broke all records of IPL auction as this is the highest amount any team has ever spent on a foreign player. But Gambhir shares that he doesn’t think this will be a pressure for Starc. Here is his full statement, as reported by starpunternews.

“I don’t think the price tag will be an added pressure for Starc. I only hope he can do for KKR what he does for Australia in international cricket.”

Gambhir’s previous statements about IPL

Earlier this year, Gambhir stated that IPL is the toughest league in the world. Now, he supplemented this sentiment with his statement in an interview on Star Sports.

“I made it very clear on Day 1 that IPL for me, a serious cricket. It’s not about Bollywood, it’s not about you, it’s not about after parties and stuff. It’s about going out there and playing competitive cricket and that’s the reason why I feel it is the toughest league in the world because it is proper cricket.”

He also added, “It is probably closest to international cricket as compared to any other league and if you want to be known as a successful franchise, you should be able to deliver on the cricket field.”
