IPLCricBet reported that during the test series between India and England, Ben Duckett said the statement as follows. “The visiting team should take some credit for Yashasvi Jaiswal’s attacking heroics”. Left handed Rohit Sharma out – bazballed England. He won 68 fours and 23 sixes, winning 712 runs in a Player of the Series act.
Soon, India’s skipper was interviewed about Duckett’s comment before the final Test match in Dharamsala. And his answer paved the way for another marvellous maestro. “There was a guy called Rishabh Pant in our team, probably Duckett hasn’t seen him play.”
Rishabh Pant’s dauntless games before the accident
It would be unlikely that Duckett wouldn’t have seen Pant play on the field. In fact, it would be unbelievable if any cricketer in the world wouldn’t be aware of how brilliant Rishabh was. Despite the popular saying, “out of sight, out of mind,” Pant is a legend that stayed fresh even after 2 years without his performance.
Prelude to Pant’s absence from the field
Rishabh was sidelined after having a near death experience in a horrible car crash accident. This accident happened on a fateful night of December 2022 when Pant was returning to his hometown. But his abilities stayed fresh in the viewers’ minds. Be it his singing behind the stumps, his ability to make something extraordinary out of the ordinary or his proclivity to get the opposition feeling tremendous pressure.

Rishabh’s recovery and rehabilitation before joining the game
His injuries were so severe that the doctors said he would need a minimum of 16 to 18 months to get back to the games. His rehabilitation was going to be long and repeatedly exasperating. But, Rishabh was strong – willed about it. He gave himself a goal and continuously pushed himself to his limits. On 2nd March this year, everyone knew he succeeded.
Encouraged by seeing this hearty development, BCCI posted this statement on X (previously Twitter).
“After undergoing an extensive 14-month rehab and recovery process, following a life-threatening road mishap on December 30th, 2022, near Roorkee, Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant has now been declared fit as a wicket-keeper batter for the upcoming IPL 2024.”
Media whirr around Rishabh Pant
Last year, there was a media buzz regarding Rishabh for a while. There were regular TV appearances, ads, and DC’s auction table conversations. But nobody was sure about when his return would be. Delhi media was pondering over whether he might just play as a batter on his return or will his knees give out in a competition? Will he be able to play like before or will he throw himself around?
This is probably the reason behind DC coach Ricky Ponting’s statement. “If he is fit, you’d think he’d step straight back into that captaincy role. If he’s not entirely fit and we have to use him in a slightly different role, then we’ve got some decisions to make there.” But after seeing his performances in practice matches, he further expressed his confidence, reported starpunternews.
“I think the whole world wants to see him back playing cricket again and just playing with that youthful exuberance that he has. If he does that, then I know he’ll win some games for Delhi and we’ll have a good time along the way this season.
