Strategic Vision of Sunil Gavaskar – LSG’s Road to IPL 2024 Playoffs, Spotlight on Batting Order of KL Rahul

Strategic Vision of Sunil Gavaskar – LSG’s Road to IPL 2024 Playoffs, Spotlight on Batting Order of KL Rahul

Famous Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar recommends that the LSG bat with power hitter Nicholas Pooran before KL Rahul in the coming IPL season. LSG impressed in the 2023 season, despite their lack of expertise, even without KL Rahul. Gavaskar stresses Pooran’s destructive potential by giving him extra overs. Although Gavaskar highlights that improving the bowling unit is imperative to guarantee a top-four position, LSG’s recent acquisitions, such as premier batsman Devdutt Padikkal, suggest a strong batting lineup.

Nicholas Pooran Should Bat Ahead of KL Rahul

Sunil Gavaskar, a prominent Indian cricketer, indicates that LSG should place smasher Nicholas Pooran prior to skipper KL Rahul in the batting lineup. LSG clinched the third position in the 2023 season, despite being newcomers. Regardless of the setback of losing prime batter KL Rahul during the league stage, LSG managed to tie with CSK in the IPL 2023 ranking.

LSG’s Strong Debut

LSG made it to the playoffs last year, but they were defeated by Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator at MA Chidambaram Stadium, without Rahul. MI’s bossy 81-run victory over LSG put an end to Lucknow’s season and extended their record in the league. As they prepare for the next season, the Lucknow based franchise has retained key players like Rahul, de Kock, N Pooran, Ayush Badoni, K Mayers, Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, and Krunal Pandya.

KL Rahul might bat at No. 4

Speaking to Star Sports about how LSG can line up next season, batting legend Gavaskar opined that skipper Rahul can take up the No.4 batting position in the IPL. “They are a good team. They have been a team that has consistently performed above their capabilities. If they keep doing this, they will always be on the edge of the top four. KL Rahul might bat at No. 4, Nicholas Pooran can bat at No. 3,” Gavaskar explained.

“Nicholas Pooran, the more overs that he gets, the more destructive he can be. I saw in Major League Cricket, he was just sensational. So clearly I think Pooran needs to get a few more overs,” Gavaskar added. LSG traded pacer Avesh Khan for premier batter Devdutt Padikkal from Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the build-up to the new season.

Quinton de Kock to open with Devdutt Padikkal?

The Lucknow-based franchise also signed Shivam Mavi (Rs. 6.40 crore), Arshin Kulkarni (Rs. 20 lakh), M. Siddharth (Rs. 2.40 crore), Ashton Turner (Rs. 1 crore) and David Willey (Rs. 2 crore) at the IPL auction. “Quinton de Kock, the opening bat. Devdutt Padikkal, who they have bought, might be the opener with him. So I think their batting seems to be definitely sorted. However, it is the bowling department where they need to put in a little more effort to ensure they maintain their position in the top four,” Gavaskar remarked.

Conclusion:-

Sunil Gavaskar’s suggestions for Lucknow Super Giants’ lineup in the next IPL season highlight a potential shift in strategy to boost their performance. Despite a solid start in IPL 2023, LSG faced hurdles, especially without KL Rahul. Gavaskar’s idea to utilise Nicholas Pooran’s batting prowess and reconsider Rahul’s position offers a proactive approach to strengthen LSG’s batting lineup. As LSG prepares with retained players and new signings like Devdutt Padikkal, they aim to strike a balance between batting and bowling strength. With Gavaskar’s advice guiding them, LSG looks forward to a successful outing in the upcoming IPL season. Also, visit iplcricbet  to read more latest news like this.
